BFF Friday: Tribal Print with an Easter Twist

28 March 2014

This title sounds quite obscure, right?  Yeah, I know.  It came about because I tried to do some lovely bright coloured tribal nail art and they just ended up like easter eggs!

So I persuaded Saz that this should be our theme for BFF Friday this week and she luckily agreed.

I took inspiration for my manicure from this picture:

I've started collecting pictures I find on google that I think would make lovely manicures and this was in my folder.

I decided to use the pattern from left to right, building it up on my nails then moving on to the next nail when I ran out of space.

I used Model's Own White Light for the base then painted on the design using Blue Glint and Barry M's pink nail art pen and Greenberry as well.

Here are my results:

I was really happy with these.  They looked so bright and eye catching but a bit eastery!  Hence the twist in the tribal pattern!

Don't forget to check out My Mint Nail's design too!

Nail Lacquer UK: Galaxy

05 January 2014

So AJ managed to sneak some pretty new polishes into the store before the start of my spending ban.  So I had to snap them up v. quickly.  Galaxy is a stunning purple to bronze duochrome.  I couldn't stop flashing my nails in the light to catch the different colours.

The polish applies well, I was a little worried it would look streaky but 3 coats gives a fantastic coverage and definitely no streaks!

I was trying all different types of lighting to get the full range of the colour in these nails, but whatever I tried wouldn't get the full potential.  It is so beautiful though.

I was a little bored during the evening and I had my Barry M Nail art pens to hand so did a little drawing on my nails and ended up creating a fab tribal design over the top of my nails.  The polish looks really well with the tribal pattern, I was so impressed.

You can buy Galaxy and AJ's other polishes over at her Etsy shop.

Challenge Week 23: Tribal Print

07 June 2013

These nails were mostly created using inspiration from across google images!  I went to Superdrug the other day to pick up the new Barry M Gellys (I only managed to buy Key Lime and Mango though and was gutted) so I used these new polishes plus the Pomegranate Gelly.

They're not the best but I'm trying to improve on my tutorial skills so here's a step-by-step on how I created these nails.

1.  Use a base coat (obviously).

2.  Paint two layers of your base colour.  I used Model's Own White.

3.  I then used Barry M's Nail art pen in black to do a rough outline of where I wanted the straight lines to be.  It doesn't matter how rough these lines are because they'll be covered up later.
4.  I then used a medium nail art brush to fill in the lines with different colours.  This was completely random and done however I fancied putting them.
5.  I finished off the design with a small nail art brush and Barry M black to re-do the original black lines and add in any extra features - zig zags and dots etc.

6.  After giving the nails forever to dry I applied two layers of Sally Hansen Quick Dry and cleaned up the manicure.

I love the new Barry M colours - they're fab and bright.  Just hope I can get my claws on the others soon.

Tribal Print Nails

24 April 2013

My cuticles are still bad but they're getting better.  Luckily, before they went downhill I managed to get my claws on the new Barry M nail art pens.  I love them.  They're so easy to use and they're easily the best nail art pen I've found.  I created this Aztec design using them (and some Barry M Greenberry) in half the time it would have taken me to do them with nail varnish and a small brush.

I still need to work on my freehand skills.  Some of my lines are a bit wibbly but overall I'm really impressed and loads of people were commenting on them in work.
